8/30 - I am Depressed

I did not get this out yesterday because I was depressed after a rough day. I was weak and fatigued all day.

My day started with the realization that I was bleeding from my dental work into my mouth. It was a small bleed but I don’t know how long it had gone on during the night only that I had tasted it several times and had not recognized it. After awaking and discovering the bleed, I got it stopped and discontinued the Lovenox blood thinner again. As before I suspected the dose 170mg /day was too much. This was later confirmed by Dr. Kaleb who said by weight that I should only be taking 120mg/day.

A little good news. We learned from MD Anderson that the AFP marker is now measuring 190, down from 300 the last reading. The Nexavar is still working.

The meeting at MD Anderson yielded a referral to the radiologist specializing in liver cancer as well for treatment of the lesion in my Inferior Vena Cava. We are supposed to see the radiologist on Wednesday for a consult and then to start a series of radiation treatments daily for two to four weeks. The disturbing part is that this treatment doesn’t promise to kill the lesion only slow or arrest its growth. If the treatment only promises to extend my life by a few months and it takes a month to execute then I’m wondering what's the point, especially since the treatments are executed when I am the healthiest. I will keep a positive outlook until after the Wednesday consult.

  3. Stay strong Ray! you are responding nicely to the Nexavar so that is positive news. I just hope you get your strength back enough to revel in the good news. I am hoping for the day that you can go out on your surfboard and be free from this crap:)

  4. Ray, we keep you and your family in prayer.

It must be so frustrating that the doctors are not regulating the doses of your medicines, that it's up to you. Sheesh!

Will hope for good news from the consultation today.

    Sue.
