7/31 - TACE Recovery

Ouch. They performed a TACE procedure on me at around 4pm yesterday. The TACE was all it promised to be. They kept me aware for the procedure so they could direct breathing while they were guiding the catheter and taking pictures. Watching I noticed the liver gets pushed around quite a bit by the lungs and the whole environment is pretty dynamic.

After the procedure they instruct you to not to move the leg on the side of the perforation for six hours. Six hours, I can't be still that long. The biggest discomfort I felt on whole was bed rot. The result of the chemo embolism is a bruised feeling internally across my upper abdomen and chest. Otherwise, I am fine and am hoping to get released early today.

The concern of the day was that my heart rate was in the 40s. Ever since this episode started they have been giving me beta blockers to keep my heart rate down. Yesterday it was a little to down. I was like Kwai Chang Caine yenning out before a battle. Doctors ask if am I ok; “yea man I'm fine”. Today my heart rate is back in the 50s, so all is well.

  1. Hang in there Ray....we're all here for you and Jane in every way possible. As you are laying around trying to be still, just think of all those amazing waves and glorious sunsets in California waiting for you as you go thru these tribulations...btw, the temp here is low 70's...

    Love you lots,
    Bonnie

  2. What happened to your 11 am appointment? Did they make you wait 5 hours for all the fun and excitement to begin? I hope they didn't stick you in the hallway again ;)

  3. You're in our thoughts and prayers, Ray. I'd have a hard time being still for 6 hours, too! California dreamin' might help, though!

    Sue.
