7/29 - News, TACE, AFP

One of the Liver doctors called to debrief my review at the meeting today. He said that there is nothing new with the lesions which is good news as we really haven't done anything yet to attack them and they haven't grown in size since the 12th. He suggested that I needed to be on chemo treatment from the Oncologist. I assured him I was seeing an Oncologist and was taking chemo meds as of yesterday. He also advised the TransArterial ChemoEmbolization (TACE) procedure to direct attack the lesions. They would like to see how the cancer responds to the treatments, both oral and direct, to further assess the aggressiveness of the cancer.

So next I heard from the scheduler who offered a TACE appointment for tomorrow. I took it. They promise it will hurt me and knock me down for a few days to a week. I also heard somewhere that it could cause me to loose my hair as is the case with many chemo patients. Now there is something to look forward to. I'll have to learn some Daughtry songs.

A follow-up on the Alpha-fetoprotein Alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) level readings. At first I registered 1210 and later showed 1480. I asked about this and was told that this is measurement error. A real change would be an order of magnitude larger.

I will be the subject of another conversation tomorrow and should get more news about the transplant opportunity.

  1. Ray, have Fred let me know if you want some hats to wear while you're w/out hair. I can whip up hats in a big hurry, from wool, acrylic, or cotton, and they can be either knitted or crocheted.

    We keep praying.

    Sue.
