4/21 - EGD Procedure Results

I was subjected to an EGD procedure this morning for the purpose of inspection ad repair of any varices in my upper digestive tract.  If you have followed from the beginning this whole thing started with bleeding into my digestive tract which lowered my blood platelet count.  The diagnosis is trail is clear from there.  The bleeding is from a ruptured varice, the varices are from blood pressure buildup due to a liver dysfunction, the liver dysfunction is from cirrhosis and cancer in the liver.

So since July, I have been on Nadalol which keeps my blood pressure low and the doctor's check for new varices periodically to avoid a bleeding incident.  As I was on blood thinners such an event would be serious.

The last EGD performed in Oct 2010 found nothing.  Not the case with the EGD from today.  Dr. Raj found 3 varices to which he applied 5 bands.

The new treatment plan that Dr. Kaseb is recommending uses an IV drug that encourages bleeding and thus he ordered the EGD.

As the procedure applied banding I was in some pain and discomfort when the anesthesia wore off.  This caused coughing in response which spiked the pain.   Thus I spent most all of the day sleeping.  The pain has subsided and now Friday morning I feel fully rested.   Marching on.

  1. Glad to hear you are feeling rested this a.m. Sorry I have not been able to post for awhile. I (DeLaine) usually keep up electronically with things on my phone & your blog has become so large, it overwhelms its memory, not allowing me to comment. Today, I logged-on, though, with my laptop.

Looks like a number of challenges lay before you, but as if you have increased options, working with two different hospitals. We will pray that your bilirubin numbers will decrease, allowing you to participate in the trials, you spoke of.

Catching-up on old questions I've had, but have been unable to ask: 1) Are you still working? I haven't seen you reference work in a while; and 2) What are the dates of your May trips? They sound wonderful.

We love & are praying for you.
