4/11 - It was the Nexavar

Had a really great week and weekend with lot's of activity.   On Tuesday my cousin and five of his seven kids came to spend some time with us in tandem with attending a conference in Houston.  On Tuesday night my cousin Marina and brother Rodger joined us to watch the Fighting Texas Aggie Women win the NCAA tourney over Notre Dame.   On Wednesday, I took the Barrington's to the Space Center and then to church that evening.   Some of Troy's kids had never seen the ocean, so on Thursday we all went to Galveston to get introduced to the ocean and surf.   I took the surfboard and got them a few rides in the froth.

Surprised that I had enough strength to fight the ocean for over an hour.   Friday, Troy and family all went to the Galleria in uptown Houston where his convention was for the next two days.  Jane and I met them and took the kids back to Friendswood so Troy and Martha could attend the convention proceedings.

Then on Friday night I solicited my brothers assistance in driving us to central Texas to visit with my niece, Heather, who recently finished nuclear reactor training with the Navy in New York.  She is now in transit on here way to her first assignment station in San Diego.  I also got to see my aunt Ruby who recently got out of the hospital.  Then as a bonus, my cousin Bonnie from California and my uncle Glenn from Mexico also showed up.   Church in Belton and then the return trip to Friendswood on Sunday.

Other than fighting almost chronic back pain, I held up through all of this.   My appetite has returned and I am not having any trouble with nausea or irregularity.   I attribute this change to being off the Nexavar.  Result, I have gained weight (now 165) and possibly some strength.   Glad to get the Nexavar treatments behind me but I am still in trouble with these new lesions.

  1. Great news Ray - and I love the ocean behind you - it is so beautiful! Reminds me of Maine. I know you are worried about the future, but I am thrilled you are taking advantage of the good days and living life to the fullest instead of sitting around worrying. Glad to hear that you are gaining weight - let's keep this trend going.

By the way, that ocean looks angry! Can't believe it took an hour to spit you out!

  3. What a beautiful day at Galveston! usually the water is not so blue. I'm amazed that you were able to surf, and thrilled to hear that you're feeling so much better. It's great that you had such a good time with everyone.

And of course we continue to pray for all of you.

    Sue.

  5. Wow! What a busy time! I'm thankful that you felt like showing the family around. It is great that your strength enabled you to surf and introduce others to the board. Keep up the forward motion.
    Love you, Cathie
