Last night I experienced cramps in both legs and hands simultaneously. Not only both legs but multiple musles in each leg. The initial episode lasted about 20 minutes before the muscles relaxed and the pain stopped. The cramping started in my hands and moved from on hand to the other. As I used one hand to releave the cramp in the other, that hand contracted. I was having to pick up things with both hands fully extended. When the cramps moved to my legs I was in some serious pain.
I applied my Dad's suggested remedy by drinking tonic water and taking some over the counter potassium. Before any remedy had time to work I experienced a second episode that lasted almost 30 minutes and more intense than before.
We started looking for a cause by reading the ppharmacy notes on each of the medicines I am taking and doing Internet research for additional information. Some of the data suggested it could be drug side effects and other data indicated possible kidney problems. Anyway the defensive position for the drug manufacturers is to suggest immediate medical attention. So since late at night, it was off to the ER.
At ER I told them of the issue and asked that they pull blood to see if there was indication of kidney or liver trouble, and so they did. They pulled blood and we waited for about 1:30 for the results. The doctor seemed competent and reported that all my results were acceptable. He had nothing to point to that explained my symptoms.
I am both pleased that the cramping was not spawned by kidney or liver dysfunction, however, we are still looking for a cause so as to prevent repeat episodes. It would be quite inconvenient if this were to happen at work or while driving. The good news is I have a visit scheduled tomorrow with the hepetologist, Dr. Stribling, and in two weeks with the oncologist, Dr. Kaseb. Maybe they will have an explanation.
I'm OK for now. Just the residual collateral pain from a muscle spasm. Oterwise I continue to feel great as reported im my previous post.
That's scary Ray! Did you call your doctor and tell him or are you just going to wait to see him tomorrow? I hope you called him and gave him a heads up!
ReplyDeleteYou have got to quit looking for new and different things to try. Cramps hurt, even after they are gone. Hope you don't have another round.
ReplyDeleteLove y'all, Cathie
Pickle juice is supposed to help cramps, one teaspoon at a time (not the whole jar of juice). Hopefully, your doctor(s) will have an easy answer for you, and you won't experience this again.
ReplyDeleteStill saying prayers, and looking forward to an excellent report from the docs.
Sue.
